Lock Cottage - Royal Military Canal - Rye - Home of the Kingfisher

Lose yourself in the magical history of this beautiful authentic cottage and its surroundings

The cottage has three good size bedrooms (two doubles and one single) sleeping, five. It is situated beside Iden Lock on the Royal Military Canal.

Wake up from your comfortable bed to the gentle sound of the lock. Time stands still here, away from the rush and bustle of city life.

Sitting beside the lock looking out across Romney Marsh, you can enjoy a beautiful breakfast including locally grown produce that you can purchase an the nearby shops in the famous Cinq Ports town of Rye just one mile away. There is a fantastic walk along the canal from Seabrook to Cliff End. The entire walk is 28 miles long but you can choose shorter sections as you please. Strolling along the canal banks you will be completely surrounded by nature. You can see dragonflies, bees, voles, swans, hares and beautiful countryside flowers. If you are really lucky you will see the resident kingfisher who lives very near to the cottage.

Nestled in the foliage on the bank of the canal next to the cottage you can quietly sit on the deck of Kingfisher Corner and watch for him.

The Lock was completed in 1808 and the cottage in 1824. The last barge to go through the lock was in 1909 and the present owners great, great grandfather signed the receipt as she passed through.

This beautiful quirky fully equipped cottage is the perfect place for a break away from it all. Suitable for couples, families or a group of friends.

Enjoy!
